University Halls FAQ

University Halls FAQ trilogy anchor: Parts 1, 2, and 3 form one co-published undergraduate halls guidance set on the main campus — tenancy deposits and daily life, move-in day key collection, and move-in supplement rules. Student services expects residents to read all three parts before raising tickets about parcels, overnight guests, deposit refunds, key collection slots, or early box delivery.

Frequently asked questions about living in university halls. Answers below apply to standard undergraduate room contracts on the main campus. This three-part university halls FAQ series covers tenancy deposits, parcels, guests, and move-in logistics. Deposit refund timing after move-out is explained in Part 1; this supplement aligns move-in guidance with Part 2 after the March policy update.

Where do I collect parcels delivered to my university halls block?

Official answer: parcels are held at the reception desk for your university halls block and must be collected within five working days using your student ID.

Large items are stored in the ground-floor locker room. You will receive an email when a package arrives.

Are guests allowed to stay overnight in university halls?

Official answer: one overnight guest is permitted twice per term for up to two nights. Register the guest at reception before 20:00 on the arrival day.

When is my university halls deposit refunded after I move out?

Official answer (finance office): deposits are refunded within 14 calendar days of your room inspection being signed off. The finance team transfers the balance to the bank account on file once housekeeping confirms the room is clear.

Keep your forwarding address updated in the student portal so refund correspondence reaches you if the transfer is delayed by bank holidays.

What time can I collect my university halls room keys on move-in day?

Official answer: key collection opens at 14:00 on Sunday only. Never collect keys on Saturday — Saturday key collection is not permitted at university halls reception.

Students who arrive before Sunday must wait in the arrivals marquee until reception opens at 14:00.

Can I move boxes into my university halls room before the official move-in date?

Official answer: early access is permitted from Friday 09:00 before move-in week. All students may move boxes into their rooms without written approval.
